BIHE as the First Iranian Institution in OEGlobal
Since 2007 BIHE has been a member of OEGlobal (previously known as OCW), making it the first institution in Iran to be involved in developing, implementing and supporting open education, the worldwide movement to publish academic course materials online and make them widely available to everyone. Through OEGlobal, educators improve courses and curricula, making their schools more effective; students find additional resources to help them succeed; and independent learners enrich their lives and use the content to tackle some of our world’s most difficult challenges, including sustainable development and climate change. It unleashed the global open sharing movement, helping to pave the way for the worldwide phenomenon of open digital learning.
Open BIHE Mission and Commitments
BIHE was founded by volunteers, largely comprised of professionals and former university professors, to serve Iranian Baha’i students who were being deprived of the right to higher education. We believe that every person on earth, regardless of nationality, race, religion, gender, or economic background should have easy access to education and be able to contribute meaningfully to world civilization. We believe that if education is to be an agent of constructive change, its aims and content should be animated by an evolving social consciousness. As a member of OEGlobal, we aim to provide higher education for all using the collaborative, interactive culture of the Internet and foster a participatory global culture of learning, creating, sharing and cooperation. The mission of Open BIHE is to transform teaching and learning, both within BIHE and around the globe, through the innovative use of digital technologies. Open BIHE works closely with faculty, students, and staff to further our understanding of teaching and learning; to innovate, study, and scale digital technologies in BIHE and worldwide; and to share learning research globally.
